歌詞の意味
満たされないときは「この手で掴めばいい」と言い、願いがあるなら叶うように行動すればいいと続ける。反対に、望むものが何もないなら、すでにある幸せに気づいてほしいとも語る。この二つは矛盾しているようで、外から与えられる「偽りのサティスファイ」に任せないという点でつながっている。何かを求めるか、今あるものを受け取るか。その判断そのものを自分に返そうとしているのだ。「侵食の香り」という不穏な言葉があるから、満足したつもりになることへの警戒も感じられる。
「君と居たい」からここにいて、「キスをしたい」から近づく。短い二組の理由と行動は、気持ちを相手に察してもらうのを待つのではなく、自分で動くという前半の考え方を、親密な関係に移したものだろう。ただし「支配して」という強い言葉を、相手を所有する意味だけに固定する必要はない。その前に「自由意志の幸福を自ら与えて」「もはや待たない」とあるため、まずは自分の選択を自分の手に取り戻す宣言として聞こえる。「My soul is my design」も、誰かの期待に合わせた姿から離れる意思をはっきり示している。
終盤で視線は「僕」だけから「踊る子供達」へ移る。自分の残像から輝きを見つけ、大事にしまい込むという場面は、過去に残したものにも新しい価値を見いだす動きだ。瞬きをするたび、大人を見るたびに、まだ見たことのない色彩へ喜んで身を任せる。前半の「掴む」「成す」といった能動的な言葉から、最後は未知の色を受け入れる柔らかさへ変わる。幸福を自分で選ぶことは、すべてを思いどおりに管理することではない。自分の意志で一歩を踏み出した先で、予想しなかった色にも出会えるという開かれた感覚が残る。
