歌詞の意味
呼吸が荒くなっても、求める気持ちは満たされない。冒頭で繰り返される不足の言葉は、疲れたから立ち止まるという通常の順序を逆転させる。身体に負荷がかかるほど、先を行く背中に触れたいという願いが強くなるのだ。その背中が誰のものなのかは明示されず、相手との距離を縮めたい思いと、自分の限界を越えたい衝動が重なっている。ここで目標を一つに決めてしまうより、追いかける身体の切実さに注目したい。
透明な滴が落ち、差し出した手には痛みが絡む。願いは頭の中の想像にとどまらず、身体の変化として伝えられる。その痛みまで熱を帯びていく展開にも、簡単には手放せない執着がある。ただし、苦しさだけで押し通す歌詞ではない。一度ずつ、また一歩ずつという短い英語の呼びかけは、果てしない願いを目の前の行動へと刻み直している。まだ届かないとしても、次の一回を試すことはできる。
